Alternator Overcharging?

ok so long story short, on my journey back from camp yesterday my alternator went, I managed to get to a dealership...with nothing working in the truck just it running, and they changed the alternator, so I continued on my way and now it seems to overcharge once in a while like almost up to 18volts doesnt really hold there but it will kinda fluxuate and my battery light kinda flashes on and off when this happens.....but then it will be normal, then 10 minutes later it will bugger up for a minute and then be normal...what causes this? should I kick ford in the nuts?

How long did you run with the alt bad? There is a possibility that your batteries are fried. Did the stealership check them? If not I would check them before, if they are bad, take out the new alt.

Im assuming they checked them, like you would think they would. so them being effed could mess up the new alt?

You could have a shorted battery! This overcharge of 18 volts needs to be looked at pronto.

My guess is the place you took your truck to probably didn't recharge your batteries.

When you pay someone to do any work on your truck then at least give them a chance to check it out.Looking at your sig I see you own 2000 psd Do you have the OEM batteries still in your truck? Overcharging at 18 volts is not good on batteries that why i asked if you could check out volts from your Dvm to see if you have a bad cab gauge.

Quit typing and go outside and isolate each battery key off tell us what each battery volts are. Then reconnect batteries start truck up and check volts again. You can also go to any autozone and they will do it for free.
