My 2000 F250 V10 just developed a problem. Not sure what it is, here's the symptoms. Gas mileage down about 1.5 mpg to about 10.8 in city driving. Cannot turn front driveshaft by hand in the driveway. I have the auto hubs and they are set to auto. You can hear what sounds like a faint noise of a tire rubbing on a plastic fenderwell, it's not actually rubbing but you hear something. At between 2000 and 2500 rpm, only while moving, you get a vibration that seems like it's coming from the front end, drivers side. When I shift into 4WD I don't hear the clunk of everything locking up, it's as if everything was already spinning. It's in 4WD because when I turn fully to either side you get the hopping of the front end as things bind up, like it's always done. Any ideas on what's broke?

Pull both front hubs and see if they are stuck. If not, see if you can turn the driveshaft again with the hubs off. If you can't, then either the xfer case is stuck in 4-high or you most likely have a binding u-joint on the front axle or seized hub needle bearings.
Getting the hubs off will at least get you headed in the right direction.
