my ac coil in front of the radiator has a slight puncture...is there anything i can do to repair it? I have tried stop leak and that didnt work....can i put some kind of epoxy or something on the hole or do i have to bite the bullet and replace it
Is it the radiator or condenser coil? If its the condenser coil that is a high pressure high temp gas to liquid refrigerant running thru there (R-134a). I am guessing its all aluminum construction. You could evacuate the charge and try and fix it, however you will probably end up just replacing it.
well i do hvac for a living when im not in school and i know i can weld it up but i am away from my torch....i was just wondering if i could just put some type of epoxy on it...btw its the condenser
I do HVAC also (Engineering side) but use to be a tech. You could try to use epoxy, but again as you know the head pressure can get pretty high when its gets warmer out.
i am going to try some refrigeration epoxy when i go back to lexington this wknd i think...i was hoping jb weld would work ....its just been a long day and miserable day since this happened...i went to pick up the parts to do the zoodad mod...and then this happened on the way back so i had freon spraying at me...then i go try to use sealant still didnt work...now i have to spend the money to go home and then buy some more stuff
I did the zoodad mod with just a hole saw. Make sure all the refrigerant is out of the system before trying to fix it. The pressure from the refrigerant and the oil will make it difficult
on the zoodad i used a jig saw and some chicken wire like stuff that was supposed to be used with a grill and a couple of automotive screws...it isn't the prettiest but it works
i also do hvac work myself i would recommend replacing the coil . will be happier in the long run. maybe able to one in a salvage yard.just me 2 cents.
I would recommend just buying a new one as if you get one from a wrecker it will work but if the condensor is exposed to air for more than a short time period your asking for trouble as moisture will collect and cause corrision once its in then down the road contaminating the oil and destroying the compressor, and other parts of the A/C system..
Fixed it a while back with refrigeration epoxy vaccuumed it twice bc of a small pinhole leak but fixed it the rest of the way...it gets chilly in that truck on the couple 80 degree days we have had
