Talking broken speed limiter???

the other day i was driving down I-94 on my way home, i've been traveling this stretch for years and i know the "hot" spots. so i kicked it up to about 90, and as the car in front of me merged over a lane, i punched it... i've been driving my truck for almost a year and my speed limited is set on 97mph.. anyhow, it just kept going! i was shocked. today i tried it again, (this is not something i like to do, but its got me thinking) and i had to been doing 115 atleast before i backed off.. stock engine, no chip, no nothing.. 7000miles on re-manufactured 4.2L, 4r70W, but... i have a 3.08 axle.. do the speed limiters only work in 4th gear?!? my truck tops nearly 50 in 1st, 80-something in 2nd, and the rest is unknown at this point.. its a long bed, with a loaded toolbox, tailgate up, and 350lbs of oil-dry in the bed for the winter, i got alot more respect for that v6, lol... has anyone else exceeded 100 without a chip or any mods????

when i do about 90 i can step on it and kick down into 3rd and my revs hardly pick up, this 3.08 loves the freeway.. i dont plan on doing this again, especially on these shabby tires, but i do plan on getting a Video just for the record one more time... ill post it asap..

my 99 5.4L wit 3.73 goes WAY past 100. i only hit speed limiter one time. the truck dose 100 in 3gear at around 4500-4700rpm and the trans shifts into 4th at around 5000rpm. i think the speed limiter came on at like 2700-3000rpm. so i think i was doing about 120.
