I'm cleaning out a tranny shop and I came across 2 transimmisons that look like E4OD's. One I am fairly sure is a 4R100, and is the one that I got my accumulator body from. My question is that I don't know if these trannys are for diesels engines or gassers. How can I tell if they are for a 7.3 or not. I'm having my transmission rebuilt and it would be much easier if I could just have that one built and swap them.
The gas 4R100 or E4OD transmissions have no opening in the bell housing, some will have a hole approx. 1" in diameter at the bottom of the bell housing, but no inspection plate.
The 7.3 Diesel has a large opening at the bottom of the bell housing & an inspection plate cover.
So let me make sure I am understanding this correctly, a gasser would be a full circle opening and the diesel would be a partial opening with an inspection cover?

Gasser may not have any hole, if it does it will be a small hole with no inspection cover, some will not have the hole at all.
Diesel will always have the hole, the hole will be larger than 1" and will always have an inspection cover.
Send a pic of the hole/inspection cover if you can and I will confirm
Hey Foxracing, If you end up not using that E40D and you find out its for a diesel i would like to buy the transmission solenoid if at all possible. Thanks
48 ford- one of them is just a shell, but I think that I found a solienoid pack that is for an e4od on a shelf of supposed e4od parts. If you can find me a part number that I can cross refrence I will check for you.
