Rear Diff I.D.

I decided to keep my 56 F-350 Firetruck and turn it into a rampback car hauler for my 62 Chevy II. Problem is... It goes about 52 MPH at 3500 RPM. The VIN says the rear is 5.14:1 rear ratio. With 13000 original miles, I would love to save this rear and regear it.
How do I identifiy this rear end

Thank you!!!
Tim

There may be a metal tag on it - about 3/4 inch wide and 2 inches long. If not can youget a picture of it?

On a F350 it should be a Dana 70. Look on the lower cast rib on the center section, there will be a 70 cast into it.

The best way to get a better gear ratio is get a later model one ton axle, Better gear set PLUS way more common eight lug hubs and wheels. I scored two axles, one is a '75 and the other is a '81. Either one is a bolt in. I also scored the front hubs, brakes and spindles for both my rear axles. I intend to put these on the '54 front axle. Makes the brake systems match as well as getting the wheels the same. Tom

I realize that a later model axle would be the way to go, but I want to reasearch the old one to try to keep the brake systems and driveshafts easier to hook up.
I found a tag on the passenger side rear of the housing.
Model is B 100 NX.
Ratio 5.143:1
Serial # is pretty illegible
On the left of the tag is a black triangle with a large "T" in the middle with a smaller "D" on the left of the "T" and a smaller "A" on the right of the "T", and a smaller yet "CO" below the "T".

Any help??

Tim

No Spicer (Dana) 70's in F350's (or anything else) until 1961.
