2001 v-10 ?

I have been looking for an Excursion for several months now. Yesterday I found a 2001 XLT V-10 4x4 with 73,000 miles that looks to be in great shape. It;s about 7 hours from me but close to my cousins house. Had him drive it today. All looked good. At what interval do you change the plugs on a V-10 and what do most of you use brand wise? On the tes drive it had a little bit of vibration at 65-70 mph. Might be a tire, alignment problem? What else should I be asking about on this year of Ex? It had the tranny rebuilt under warranty at around 50,000 miles. Asking $11,800 which I think is about $1500-2000 high. Any feedback appreciated.

Use stock plugs. Change them now. Between 70-80K is the time to do it.

Make sure all the door lock actuators work.

Make sure the lights go out when you open and close each door & rear hatch.

Make sure the hatch stays open by itself.

Make sure the 4x4 works.

Make sure the hub actuator can be turned by hand to manually lock the hubs.

Make sure the hubs unlock when you put it back in 2WD by reaching behind the wheel and attempt to turn the half shaft. It should spin freely.

Schedule a tranny flush when you get it.

Vibration? Too hard to diagnose without more info.

That price is a little high. I bought an 01, X10, 4wd XLT with 41,100 miles back in January for $5800. Thats I know is on the low side, (dealer knew it wasn't moving), but I sold my 01, 5.4, 2wd XLT wiht 98,000 miles for $6800. I think around $7,500 is about where it needs to be.

This is the one I just bought.

if at all possible I would try to figure out what the cause of the vibration is before you purchase it,lots of superduty and ex owners pulling their hair out and throwing lots of money at vibration issues my self included and I still got a slight vibration.

Everything Monsta said and it is a little high in price, I bought mine back last July for $7800 with 58,000 miles on it.

2001X got a screaming deal for $5,800 and 41,100...

Also consider the condition inside and out, what are the options (Leather or Cloth)?

Thanks for the replies,

The truck is in great shape inside and out. The owner has only put about 10,000 miles in 3 years on it. It is an XLT with cloth package. NADA is $9700.00. I'm sure there are better deals out there but they are never close to where I live(Western Kansas). The ones I see are a plane ride and away, add meals, fuel, and hotel. If anyone on the list knows of a good deal in Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, or Ohlahoma let me know.

Regards,

Mitch

Mitch, I have a 2000 X and the paint is starting to peel. It first started up in the rain channels on the roof. Now it has moved to the door jams. I would suggest checking for cracks and peeling paint on the roof as it is not normally visible. Adam

The truck is in Colorado. It shows no signs of rust and underneath looks to be in good shape. The owner told me it stays in his shop most of the time and is used mainly for vacations. Thanks for all the replies.
