Need some window tinting advice

Hi guys. I'm new to the board and have a Black, 2000 Ranger XLT 4x4. I'm in S Carolina where it gets HOT and need to tint the windows.
I've looked at all the different products available and am confused about which would be best to use.
Some I've looked at have "levels"......2500, 5000, 7500 which are supposed to indicate quality. Is there really a difference?
Anyone that has a suggestion for a brand "etc" would be greatly appreciated.

Also.....any info on prepping the windows so I don't end up looking like all the people with the bubbles in their tint.
Like .....what do you use to clean them with?

Thanks in advance and it's good to see a place to get help. I'll try to add my two cents now and then.

Bob

Need some window tinting advice

I just got the back of my canopy tinted (a wicked mirrored blue), and I watched the guy do it (he's a friend of mine who's a professional stereo and electronics instaler who also does custom tints). Wash the window very very very well with a regular car window cleaner (one that leaves no residue) do it several times to be sure that there is nothing on the window (he also went over my window with a razorblade to get off any dirt particles that the cleaner couldn't), then cut the tint to the shape of the window, get the surface of the window wet and slide the tint onto it, line it up propper, and then flatten out the tint (he used an angled piece of hard rubber). there should be very few bubbles. give the tint a few days to dry (the adhesive will create a milky appearance... this is normal), some bubbles may show up but they should disappear as the water eventually dries (takes a few days).

Or you could just get it done professionaly for under $100.

I'm no pro at this but this is what I saw. good luck.

Unless you want it to look like you did it yourself, DON'T.

Even a pro of averave ablity and experiance will do a job that will do you proud.

Keep in mind a few things if you intend on getting the BEST (and who doesn't):

1. Air bubbles are caused by trapped dust/dirtunder the film. You need to vac and clean your interior prior to dropping your ride off.

2. When shopping for an installer, check his work & his shop. Is his shop clean, is work performed inside and out of the dust filled parking lot? Check his work paying special attention to the edges of the windows, the boarders should be almost inpersivable. Check a car that he did that has a rear window defroster, this is the real test of skill.

3. Don't skimp on price, you will likily have to live with your choice for a couple years at least, you don't want to be reminded of a bad job every time you look at your windows.

4. Now that you have a great tint job, keep it that way. NO WINDEX or other ammonia based cleaners, they will discolor the film (many of those cars you see with purple window tint were not planned that way). Watch your rings, seatbelts and dogs, the tint can be scratched pretty easily from the inside and will show.
