Okay, I got under the truck to start on removing my CAT and I am now confused. When I bought the truck they said it was all stock. But now I know its not.

Either I have a CAT and no muffler or vice versa. Would someone let me know. I am not sure what the stock CAT looks like.

The forum wont let me attach photos so I created an album in my profile with the pics. Please take a look and let me know. Thanks....

That's your cat, the muffler would have been further back.

A cat is only like 1 to 1.5 feet long and the muffler is like 3 feet long. just a guess mine have been off for almost a year laying in the shed, but those numbers should be close.

The cat bolts up th the downpipe at the front of the engine. It is oblong not round. The muffler is towards the back, round and bout 2 feet long.

Thanks... Thats what I thought but didnt want to take out the muffler. I get inspected for mufflers but not cats here. Dont need emissions they just look under the truck to see whats there. I am on my way out to cut that beast out. Can I fire it up before I put in the replacement pipe just to see what it sounds like?

i have a question.. im my state i have to have a cat. Does the cat unbolt and slide out? if so, would this plan work? Unbolt the cat, replace it with straight tubing. When inspection rolls around.. slide the cat back in and put the clamps back on?

I am absolutely against removing a cat from a gasser but I don't see how a cat could do anything for diesel exhaust unless your truck is not running right. Does it really do anything besides add dead weight and restriction?

The cat will not just slide out, you will need to pound it off, maybe use a
little heat where the clamp crushed the pipe. The best thing for you to do is leave the cat in place,
take the rear pipe off of it, use a bar and hammer to break out the honey
comb inside. This is the fun part, start the truck an watch all the cat guts
spew all over the drive way LOL! Keep beating the guts out until the cat is empty.
Now get a piece of straight pipe and slide it into the cat, end to end. Tack
weld it in place. Replace the previously removed pipe. Enjoy you new
found power and turbo whistle.

That's awesome advise Jim! Green beans on the way! For those who live where they get inspected, that's the way to go.
