Brake light switch

Stayed with the pressure stop switch with the Front Disc brake upgrade. Seems after 6 yrs brake lights are not working and it may come down to replacing the $12 switch. Now considering going to the mechanical/electrical switch and read article where there are a couple with different type mounts; understand 1 type is installed in Ford trucks after 1980 that mounts to the brake actuating rod, no fabrication necessary; and the other is installed on 72-79 Ford truck and I will need to fabricate a bracket for the switch to mount to? Any information on the stop switch swap appreciated.

The first year Ford installed the brake light switch on the brake pedal is the same year Ford went to the dual master cylinder: 1967.

The switch was mounted this way thru 1982.

Thanks Bill, likely wait until these storms clear out and make a 'pic n pull' run, I have difficulty picturing how the mechanical setup is attached so likely go mudding for the parts and see how the bracket and switch are assembled.

I use GM or Ford Drum switches for builds. Always reliable and easy to mount on an angle bracket. About 15 bucks at the jobber.

Thanx Garbz, then it sounds like I should be able to use a stop light switch setup I purchased for a GM project currently working on, just have to decide whether I will break a harden rule not to mix, or swap, parts between projects. Thanks again.

I have one or two pics on my 64 f-100 gallery. I went with the GM plunger type and was very pleased with the results. Not sure what it cost, but it was cheap. Brakes are kinda important and letting someone know you are stopping might be worth skipping the junk yard and just spending $10-15 for a new part. Besides you don't even have to get dirty, just drive up, get the part, then go home. Think I used angle iron for the mounting bracket.

drof46, checked your gallery, great description and pic of the stop switch, thanks much. Looks like the switch was added with the brake assembly out. I will have to get underneath tomorrow and check out the 65 brake pedal assembly, certainly would be handy if I can remove the pedals assembly without having to remove the entire bracket. Thanks again, I am not the cerebral type, pic's make it clear for me.
