That hole is a bad thing, I would at least replace the top piece of the carb. I would replace that before you go any further, it just yells "engine fire, exploding truck" to me.
I believe that that hole is suppossed to have a rubber plug that covers it when you accelerate. I am at work right now so I can't check one of my carbs. You probably have a vacuum leak at the base of the carb.
the gaskets are all new and all the bolts are tight. once it is started it runs good above idle but after shut off if it sets for more than a couple of minutes it is hard to start
ok i found out my float may be set wrong it still dumps fuel after shut off and has vaper comming out of the carb so the hard start is flooding does that sound right to any one? if so how do i fix it?http://images.ford-trucks.com/forums...es2/smhair.gif
You fix it by setting the float correctly. It is a very simple process. You may just want to rebuild it. In the kit will be the instructions on how to set the float. The kit is under $20.
I have a 1969 f250 with a 360 in it also, earlier this year, i added an electronic ignition to to, it goes in the distributor and it replaces the points, although it is around $100, i also had msd on it which i bought for $300 but that did not make as much of a difference as the electronic ignition, this might not work but for me it makes it fire right away, its unbelievable, otherwise maybe try a carb with an electric choke if you dont already have that?
thanks guys i think i got i narrowed down to the carb needs a compleat rebuild and the hole i mentioned i have found through research that it is a vent hole but thanks for the help and as soon as i get the mony i am going to get the pertronix electronic ignition
The easiest and one of the best ways to get away from points is to convert to a Ford Duraspark ignition. Your local u-pullit yard shoyld have everything you need. look for a mid seventies to mid eighties truck to get the parts.
