on thursday, noticed a minimal amount of white smoke from exhaust, didn't think alot about it until I noticed it was 58 degrees and still doing it. No other vehicles around were "smoking". Didn't worry alot with it as it would come and go and I thought it was just some condensation. It continued to do so on Friday. Friday night I was an hour and a half from home when my transmission made a POP while backing into a driveway. Reverse was totally gone and drive would work for about a 1/4 mile and then kick to "neutral". I had 2nd gear and drove 4 miles at 20 MPH to get to a parking lot. The rollback went and picked it up yesterday. I did notice the truck shifting a little harder lately but fluids were fine. My question is wether or not the white puff can be linked to the tranny. Read somewhere that the vacuum modulator valve can cause fluid to be linked into an area to cause white smoke. Is this possibe? Surely I don't have a blown tranny and head gasket too. That would be awful to say the least. The truck has been great until now. It has just rolled over 80k and its a 5.4l Supercrew 2wd.
hi there iam jj 98 i dont think the new trucks use vac mod they use a shift cabel but the pop and the smoke dosnt sound to good the smoke thing could just be a real dirty pcv vale.
That truck has an electronically controlled transmission and will have neither a vacuum modulator or a shift cable. Everything, other than moving the shift lever, is done through computer control now.
So you can rule out the transmission causing any exhaust abnormalities.

Well Crud, Maybe its just condensation. I'll watch it when the truck gets back from the tranny guy. Will see if it's still doing it.....Thanks!
