I am going to be buying an aftermarket wiring harness for my 49 Merc, and would just like to know which ones everybody liked or disliked, and for what reasons. It will have a 351W and C6, not sure if that affects anything.
I really like my Ron Francis wiring harness. It leaves nothing to be desired and covers all wiring needs now and in the future. It is quite expensive but worth it to me.
Iive used both EZ Wire and Ron Francis. There is a good size difference in cost but the EZ wire will do the job. One thing I liked about the RF kit is the wires are not pre-terminated in the fuse panel and it makes it easier to run them. Both are good kits just more bells and whistles and perhaps better instructions in the Ron Francis.
Alot of th eguys also like the Painless wiring harness from Summit racing.
Myself, for $185 I can buy all the wire, good connectors and fuse blocks I need to wire from scratch and build a custom harness as I go. I have trouble tracing down premade harnesses.
If you are using a 302 engine with a EFI setup can you use a ezwire system?
I used a EZ Wire in a truck with a TPI SBC. All of the wiring for the fuel injection is separate from the truck wiring harness. You will have to make or buy all of that wiring in addition to any wiring harness that you buy AFAIK.

I did it Julies way, that way you can use shrink wrap and custom build. I had an unlimited supply of different size wrap that were 30 feet long. Just make sure that all the wire is in the wrap. Forgot the horn and backup light wire.

I am with Julie, simple and cheap to make your own. Here is a 49' harness I am making using the old one as a pattern. Replacing old wire with modern cloth covered(vinyl inside) wire. Pics make it look like a bad job but its not.
