97 Ford F350 7.3L Diesel 4X4

We were attempting to change the o-rings on the dipstick due to leaks. When working on the one where the dipstick enters the oil pan there is a piece on the inside of the oil pan that is held in place by a flange on the outside of the oil pan well, the piece on the inside slipped and fell into the oil pan. I know that dropping the oil pan means pulling the engine. Really hoping someone can give me some ideas about retrieving this part from the oil pan. PLEASE!

you can unbolt the motor mounts, unbolt the oil pan and lift the engine about 1 1/2 - 2". That is enough room to tip the pan to the side and retrieve the part.
