I have a question on the brush guard/pushbars that you can mount on the front of the truck. My question is I am looking at buying a black one and wondering how quick it rusts. I'm told it won't rust for 5 years but the mfg. will tell you anything. I like things to look nice and if it looks like junk in a year forget it and I will spend the $500 somewhere else. Thanks for your time.
Brian
Brian,
What year and model?
btw, we have a Setina Police/Military push bar on our 96 bronco; it's been in since 97 and used twice with great reults. It's a lot cheaper but strongly made as compared to the fancy guards. It's black, powdercoated and has a cross brace for mounting stuff. No rust at all.

If you go with another brush guard, be sure it's black POWDER COATED. A lot of the cheapies (and some of the not-so-cheapies) will sell you products that are black painted, which will rust in a heartbeat, as will the chrome examples that are not triple-plated. Be sure the black coating is powder coat, and the product is a brand name, and you should be okay.
Hi - To answer the first question the truck is a 2000 F150 4x4. For the second comments. What does powder coating mean? How is it different from paint? The brand that the place carries is Westin and Outland. Thanks for the feedback.
Mine is aluminum. So it will never rust and it only weighs around 40lbs. Check out the pictures in my gallery or you can find out more about it here. [link:cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1821501742&r=0&t=0|all oy tech on ebay]
Westin is a good quality brand. Powder coating is a smooth, high gloss finish that looks like paint. It's applied by electrically charging a clean, bare metal part and fogging on a sprayed powder coating, which adheres to the part through the charging. The part is then baked, which causes the powder to smooth out and cure on the part. The result is a finish that's tougher than goat guts, which will seal the metal against rust and retain a hard, high gloss. Good stuff.
I had a Grizzly brush/grill guard and a set of nerf bars on my 94 Ranger. The side bars had rust within 6 months and the grill guard started rusting within a year. The mfg did have a five year warranty and I was told there wouldn't be a problem getting the rust fixed. The problem is when driving up to the snow I travel on roads that have been sanded(lots of gravel included w/ the sand). The sand/rock mixture gets kicked up onto the side bars and it's just like sandblasting. I even had mud flaps and they didn't stop the damage. The grill/brush guard took a little while longer to get dinged up but it still happened. I didn't take advantage of warranty repair because the damage would happen yearly and I would be responsible for shipping the product back to the mfg.
The simple solution is to get a can of black spray paint and touch up the visible areas. Also the powder coat is super hard and is very very difficult to remove yourself without strong chemicals and or sandblasting.
I've seen quite a few really good looking bars on trucks around town, but when I go up to the mountains I see a lot more rust. So I suppose it matters where and how you'll be using it.
One other thing, get a grill guard that attaches to the frame. I was rear ended, at less than 10 mph, one time by a women who had a really nice grill/brush guard on her SUV. My bumper was bent slightly(hardly noticiable) but her grill guard bent the hood, smashed the grill, broke one headlight and both windshield wipers(on the headlights).
