Cool, get you a turn signal switch in there now and you'll be good.
EDIT
I just looked at your link to the wiring diagram....it looks like GREEN is your RIGHT HAND BRAKE...YELLOW is LEFT HAND BRAKE...You may have to hook both those wires to red to get BOTH brake lights..Let me know what you find out....

BADDA BOOM BADDA BING!! TWO WORKING BRAKE LIGHTS!! thanks a ton. I rally need to get at least a Jr degree in wiring LOL
Now if I can just find a used turn signal switch we'll be good to go.
Hey ,Bob, Google Shee-mar, they produce a lot of the aftermarket turn signal switches. I know they make one for my '66 as well as my brothers '79.
Probably going that route until we can find a parts truck, or one in a yard by luck. I need the entire unit including the lever and what not so a switch alone wouldn't be to helpful.
For what it's worth, MY brake lights suck and I just ordered a new switch from LMC truck parts for $5; it should be here in a few days; I'll let you know if it makes a difference... hopefully.
I'm also thinking of switching to LEDs but they're a little spendy at the moment (according to the misses).
Hey Pickle...hows things going now on the beast ??? As for the stop light switch...it is also easily gotten from any good local parts store as it has an immense application as Bill noted...

If the lights come on at all, then the switch is doing all that it does. AFAIK Afte that it would be either a ground issue or (if the truck has been repainted) pull the bulbs off and have a look see. Maybe they are the same color
Well, they DO work, it's just that I have to really press on the pedal. Perhaps bleeding the brakes will help? I may end up going with a different switch and LEDs like some of you guys; I think that would be the best long-term solution.
As far as the truck itself, yes it is driveable and running. I has an exhaust leak on the driver's side, and my "new to me" Edelbrock Performer 500CFM carb came yesterday; mine was leaking and broken, I hope this does the trick.

Where would you get LED's? If found are they a complete package, bulb and lenses for the rear? I have'nt found anyone who has LED's for the slicks. At least not with lenses. Bulbs I can get Lenses I can't.

I have no idea what the LED bulbs look like, but coulldnt they be hardwired in place of the old unit (behind the OEM lens) ?
LED bulbs are available that plug right into the 1157 bulb socket, I have heard however that vibration is an issue with these styles? I see a lot of the HD trucks(semis) have gone to LED lights, so maybe that refers to the first ones, not the newer versions.

The LEDs have arrived! Featuring a Lifetime warrantee, they install in just 5 minutes and are made in the USA.
Not all LED systems are created equal. Conventional wisdom for Bronco LEDs has been to stuff a handful of LEDs into the space of the tail light and call it good. We wanted an LED kit that utilized the optics of the stock lens. Since we didn't have an electronic engineer at WH we sent a set of stock Bronco buckets and lenses to our friends at Dakota Digital. What they came up with is truly modern technology in an extremely effective and simple to install package. The LED lighting system is engineered to utilize your existing wiring harness, tail light lens and assembly. Whether you have OEM wiring, or have updated to a new style harness, installation is effortless! The design of the circuit board provides consistent brightness regardless of voltage from 10.5-16 volts. If you can change the tail light bulb you can install this LED system.
The upper right image shows the LED unit installed.
The lower right image shows the LED produced light is very bright.
The left image shows what it looks like with the lens in place: the light fills the lens and is very bright.
