Camera to replace rearview mirror??

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-Jun-02 AT 01:58 PM (EST)]If i stay with my initial design for my sub box, It will be a One Piece Unit that takes up the entire back of the vehicle from the floor to the headboard. I use my rearview mirror on a regular basis. Ive seen setups where a small camera was installed just inside the vehicle window, and a display was used up in the front to replace the rear view mirror. Has anyone had any experience with anything like this. I will be getting a display in my dash when i purchase my CD/MP3/DVD PLayer.

1) Does anyone have any recommendations as far as the Camera Manufacturer goes?

2) Is it possible to setup up the display on the dash to be used with the camera as well as its initial purpose.

Thanks In Advance!!

I've seen these set-ups before at car shows, but I am not sure who makes them. Try calling John at Laketown Speed and Sound. His number is 801-230-4460. He can point you in the right direction, or possibly will have the stuff you need. I remember talking to him a while back about a set-up with the camera for my corvette.

This is actually pretty common on large RV's. I'd try some RV web sites. They mount the camera back by the rear and have a seperate display for it.

If you want to use your in-dash, you'd have to check the inputs or get/make a switch and check for compatable input signals.

I would think a 12V video camera that is used for security systems or original SONY recording would work.
Try a few pawn shops for one with a car Lighter jack and hard wire it in.

Camera to replace rearview mirror??

look here, but I don't see in the article if the camera or monitor has a "mirror image" capability...
http://www.funddealernet.com/cartercam/

and I have some X 10 cameras and a few other modern security cams (yeah but i bought them years ago before they went to the pop-up as campaign).. they will "glare out in direct sunlight or at night if other vehicle's headlights are in cam's view.

or for nearly 400!

some pals say they saw a system @ K Mart for $100.00 recently

search the WWW for ""rear view camera" and you'll see dozens available as well as diy articles.
