under the hood
I am in the process of trying to finish my hood and get it ready for paint. I sanded under the hood and was wondering if I could put some type of heat shield under the hood. I have used that stuff for roofing in the cab from Home Depot. It has a aluminum top side with a tar type of product for the underside. Would that be okay for under the hood or would the heat from the engine be to hot for it. I don't want it to melt or start a fire once I have the truck back on the road. Any suggestions ?
House temps never get much above 130 degrees - even in an attic in the summer. Temps under that hood will regularly get above 200 degrees.
I would look into automotive insulation - check withthe rod shops of 4WD places.
Why are you trying to keep heat in your engine compartment? The less heat in there the more hp and fuel economy you will get out of your engine as cold air is less dense than warm air improving the stoichiometric ratio, thereby increasing hp.
