The seal on my steering box on my '95 F150 is leaking. I am going to try to replace the seal . I need to remove the pitman arm. I have a pitman arm removal tool from Performance tool. It couldn't even budge it.
Can anyone recommned a pitman arm puller that would do the job?
You may have a beast of a time getting it off. When I went to replace the seals on my '94 F-150 I tried to pull the pitman arm and no go, so I removed the steering box from the truck( I had planned to remove the box anyway and replace both the upper and lower seals, though I think only the lower one was leaking.) I turned the box upside down on the bench and put a good puller on the pitman arm and tightened it as much as I could and took a sledge hammer and literally beat on the center bolt of the puller, no go. So I took the box in to a welding shop. The guy first tried to remove the pitman arm with an air hammer, nope. So he heated the pitman arm and back to the air hammer, no. So he again heated it up and dipped it in water, back to the air hammer it finally popped loose. Good luck with yours.
they can be a pita... heat can help allot... but a good puller made with premium steel is a must... I've heard of people giving up on it and buying a rebuilt or used box just cause they couldn't get it off... good luck
