Ok here it goes. i drive a 2002 F250 5.4l CC and about 3 days ago my gauges went out. So I drove it home replaced the fuse and all was good well yesterday I drove home and went inside for about 20 min when I went back out the truck was dead! So I call my buddy over to jump it and you know what the retard does? He flip floped the cables on his side. Instantly drianing his truck and making mine spark up a storm. So I go and get a jump kit from the neighbor and hook up my truck and it starts up like a charm. Let it sit and idle for like 5 min and she starts to chug out and die. So I call around and we come to the conclusion that when the truck was jumped wrong it had blown the alternator. So I pull the altenator and take it up to AutoZone and Advanced Auto Parts and some other local shops and noone can test the damn thing. They dont have a mount that can hold it. so i go home and put it back on the truck and pull the batery and take it back up there and wait the 60 min for the battery to be tested. Finally the battery tested out fine and with a full charge. so take it home put it back in the truck and decide to limp it down the road to have the alternator tested. Get to the shop and the altenator tests fine and it is still charged and running today.

Now I know that all connections were tight and I checked them after the incident. The truck has a slight burnt electrical smell but seems fine now. Any Ideas or do I have a Magic Truck.

 

sounds to me like you had a bad connection for sure....at the battery terminals somewhere...

Thats what I keep telling myself but I took them off and replaced them a couple of times before thinking it was something else.

 

Might be where the alt big wire attaches...

 

Ya hopefully I will find out. Waiting for the truck to do it again. The alternator has a lifetime waranty so if it goes not a big deal but it would be nice to know what actually happened.
