So a buddy offered me his USP .40, great weapon, but he never fell in love with it. So the deal is get him a Glock to replace it, and the H&K is mine, WooHOO!! Told him to go and find the one he wants, then if i were a smart man, i would join that Glock "club" that was previously mentioned. Upon further inspection this particular H&K isnt as expensive as i had thought $700-800 seems to be the internet price. Oh well, i believe it will be a deal to make us both happy, he gets his old love back, and i get a name I've always been enamored with. Anybody got an opinion?? Other than my getting myself a Glock, my original plan was the xd line from Springfield. Later Dan
Dan. . . .
Buy the Glock and keep it for yourself! Seriously.

Whatever caliber you choose, 9mm Parabellum, .357 Sig, .40 S&W or .45 acp. . . . the Glock IS a better platform.
Less expensive entry to the platform and parts (if needed) are more available, plus the Glock people stand behind their product!

On the original topic,.308 rifles,if you can live with a bolt action consider Tikka rifles, they are built in Finland, home of Sako, and they are owned by Beretta. Also Howa builds a good rifle, they built rifles for Weatherby, and are reasonable priced......On DusterDans comment on HK's and Glocks,I would seriously shoot both the HK and the Glock, and then if you have a favorite, get it! Both these brands, along with Sig Sauer, are regarded by many as the best in industry.

Your M1A is at its best with iron sights. The advantage of using iron sights is that you get quick target acquisition and you don't lose track of what else is happening near your target.

With a little practice you can reliably hit any target at several hundred yards. This rifle was designed to be effective with issue sights at 600+ yards.

I purchased a scope and installed it long enough to verify that the handloads that I developed were accurate. The scope came off and the rifle is used for High-Power competition with its issue sights.

That rifle is a hoot to shoot.

My dad had a m1a when I was a kid. Then ammo was so cheap, I shot that rifle a lot. Never even dawned on me to shoot it six hundred yards out, but any thing you could see, you could put a round in the middle of it at two or three hundred yards.

Well Gents, I did it. I made the trade with my buddy for his H&K. Oddly enough, when I first started getting serious, I discussed the Springfield XDM's with him. He wasnt a believer, but then started his own research and consulting with friends and rolled over. So the deal we made was His USP for an xdm , plus he buys 2 boxes of ammo for me. We are both happy, but he has to wait for his gun to come in, everyone is sold out of xdm's in .40 in our area. Oh well, i paid for it, and it is done, I am happy with the USP, and feel it was fair. Man find me a gun dealer that wouldnt vote for Obamma if they could do it all over. The last few weeks of shopping, I have not been able to get close to the counter to look at a gun, Independents, Gander Mountain, you pick em. They claim to be selling handguns as fast as they can get them in. In fact I went to renew my gun card at a local license shop. This company licenses everything as an agent for the state , cars, boats, bikes, you name it. I was there for 15 minutes, witnessed 8 different transactions, and 6 of them were gun related!!!!!!! Thanks everyone for your opinions, they were appreciated. Dan

Well Dan,
I'm glad that you are happy with the HK. Seriously.
Personally, I never saw 'much' with them.
I guess that's why there's chocolate; vanilla; strawberry and a host of other flavors of ice cream!

As for gun dealers wanting to vote for the man that currently sits in the Oval Office. . . . .
I can name you 5 dealers/owners that would NOT vote for him, period.

Yes, firearm sales are UP. Waaaaaaaay up. It's a 'feeding frenzy' because of panic.
Panic (in any form) is not good for the country.

And as Forrest Gump said, "And that's all I have to say, about that."

Yea, I'm sure you are right, the gun dealers voting for obamma was tongue in cheek. I am sure we havent even scratched at the surface yet. I'm just awestruck at the insanity going on anywhere guns are sold, yet i am right there in the middle of it. Any truth to something i heard about brass being legislated somehow...... a back door approach to a governmental gun grab??? Sorry i cant elaborate more, everything i have heard has been vague. Only other thing i know about it, seems it was tacked on as an earmark in a bigger piece of legislation. Dan
