I have an amplifier running directly off the battery, with an in-line toggle (on/off) switch. When the truck is idling amp works properly, but when I rev the engine the amp cuts off. My assumption is when the engine revs it is surging the amp. My question is should I run the amp from the fuse box, and will that stop the power surge?
Rerouting it won't fix anything. A high draw item such as an amp should always be powered directly off the battery.
Questions: How big of amp? What's it's electrical draw(should be noted on amp), how's the charging system? How large of alt? Do you notice the headlights dimming/brightening when amp cuts out?
Just trying to get some idea of what's happening when it cuts out. Is it internal or external problem. If nothing on the truck flickers, then likely it's internal to the amp and not drawing too heavily on the system. If the truck is having issues, then likely it's drawing power too heavy and cutting out.
Check your ground i had a issue like that and the ground was loose. Is your toggle cutting the main power or the power antenna (turn on)? If you have the stock alt the amps could be to much for it i think the stock alt only 60 amps.
