Just found this forum andjoined up. I just purchased my first truck in about 15yrs. A 92 F-150 4x4 5.8l, e40d, and still have some further investigating on what t case I have in it and front and rear diffs. A little bit more about the truck, missing r/f automatic hub. I have a set of Warn manuel locking hubs to install. The tranny is pucking fluid out the front pump when it gets hot. The auto 4wd buttons are pushed back into the gauge panel same as the d/s window switches. So thats about it for now till I get out there this weekend and see what else is wrong/broke/or just plain doesn't work.
Dump the auto hubs for the Warns. You'll be glad you did.
Post the information from the data panel inside the driver's side door jamb and we can get to work figuring out the gearing.
Once you dig the buttons out, test the xfer case. The motors like to crap out, and some of the wiring under the truck can be damaged.
If it's puking all the time when it's hot, it's probably TOO hot. Big thing with these trucks once you get them is to drop the pan and change the fluid and filter. E4ODs don't like being too hot but stand up to it better than the old AOD. There's a chance that it might still be okay.
I have noticed that the temp gauge barely moves into the into the operating range and thats when it starts leaking. It takes it a while to get up to that point in its self. I'm thinking that the temp sensor is not working proberly and the cooling is not kicking in and therfore causing the over heating. What codes do you need. I went out and wrote down the codes that were on the door jam. Some I have figured out and some not yet. Thanks for the help so far.
and change the temp gauge for a mechanical-if she is not showing hot and the tranny is puking fluid out the front-and get a good size trans cooler! a must for any e4od! me thinks ya got a heating problem?
