I work @ a bodyshop and we have a 2005 F-350. We've checked through VIN # and such and the steering gear box we've gotten from 2 wreckers are WRONG. From other '05 F-350s apparently but they are too small, the one on the truck we have is a fair bit bigger. Are there any reasons why? I'm stumped what the heck is going on?? Ford can't even tell me.
Well I am not sure how much help I can provide but I have a few questions. First does the pitman arm match up to the replacement box? Other then size what else is different? When was the truck produced? What engine? 4X4 or not? Are you sure the orginal was an OE (or OEM) part and not an aftermarket upgrade?
Hopefully someone else will have more info for you but at least you got a bump.
Are there different steering boxes for SRW and DRW? Maybe different ones for chassis cabs (if you have a chassis cab instead of the regular F350 with a pickup bed).
Was made in mid '05, 4x4, extended cab, short box. Far as I know all parts are OEM still. Not sure about the pitman arm matching up, we took the box over and saw was smaller than the one in the truck by a bit so we returned it and so far all other one's that wrecker has gotten are the same and looking through VIN # of this and that one, they should be a perfect match. Is a super duty diesel. 6.0L I believe. Not sure what SRW or DRW mean, sorry.
Asked many times to make sure it's a SD so I don't think that's the problem, but I don't know what else it could be... He might not know what he's talking about.

I ran into a similar problem when I had to replace mine. The 05-07 trucks are different then the 99-04 model. In my searching for a used one (ended up buying new) I found many of the interchanges listing it for like 99-07 when in fact thats not true. I bet they keep getting you one for a 99-04 becaiuse there interchange says they are the same until 07.
Not d=sure if this helps, but I juast had my 05 steering box changed. the place that did the change was going to rebuild, but found out there was a change to the box mid year. You have the same model I had. Maybe that explains it?
