Ok I have a 02 f-250 with a tekonsha voyager controller. When I plug in the trailer I get nothing. no lights or anything. I thought that my controller might be bad. well I did a little research and found out that the problem is on the blue (trailer brake) wire on the truck.
I can hook my test light up to eh wires coming out of the controller and the lights turns green/red as it should. the voltage even changes with the settings. so the box is working. However I can test it on the trailer connecter and I get nothing. the ground wire is good but I get nothing on the blue one. I tested the connectors going to the plug too hoping that the problem was just in the plug but I got nothing there either.
SO....... does anyone know where this wire runs along the truck and if there are any connectors anywhere I can undo to test it along the length of it?
On a 2001? I did the harness from the back, plugs in over the driver's wheel well. I would test for pass through there. The connector in the back goes bad too (basically the connector/wire breaks).
On one one I did, the five way? got pulled when it was not disconnected from the trailer and required the harness being replaced. I think the harness is $80 (trailer to harness over wheel well) from the dealer.
Did you check the fuse AND relay (inside cab/under hood) ?
On my '01 F250 I had a problem with the brake wire where it went into the round 7 pin socket at the hitch. Must have been hit by something because the wire was cut off flush at the back of the socket. The 7 Pin socket plugs in up above the spare tire and the complete harness is available from Ford. I just bought a new 7 pin socket at an auto parts store and wired it in. Under $10 compared to the cost from ford.
