Ok Maybe Dumb Question

My truck came with a 6 disc in dash player. I have received a ford focus Mp3 player that is a single disc. My question has anyone taken the two apart and combined them to make the best of both worlds? If so What had to be used from each radio to make it happen?

I don't think it will be that easy. Basically the MP3 single disc is a CD player but it has an MP3 decoder as well as a CDA decoder. This is most likely burned on a eprom. The rub will be if the MP3/CDA decoder and the firm ware are on the same eprom, then you can't mix and match. If the decoders are separate, you might be able to interface them, but that is way over my head.

You know, if you want to play around with it, a Car-PC would be a fun project. I've wanted to build one for a while. Basically you need a DC-DC converter with 12 and 5v lines, then the mother board (probably a really small form factor like micro ATX), then your storage devices (CD/DVD drive and hard drive), a display (if the mobo has a RCA video out, then a TV screen will do) and input devices (keyboard and mouse). With a large enough drive, you can have all the music you like.
