429-460 flywheel question

429-460 flywheel question
I am putting a 429 in my 78 4x4 with the 4 speed and have been looking for a flywheel. I done a search on here and found a 390 or pre 79 460 will fit but done a search on autozone and found both but each has different part numbers. I searched for both using 2 wheel drive f250 with the 4 speed. What one should I use and what are some issues I might run into. I want to use a 12" clutch but read in one post about some bellhousing clearance issues. I am using my 351m bellhousing and it had a 12" clutch in it. I really don't want to spent the $300 for the L&L flywheel if I can keep from it. I did read about some issues with the flywheel thickness. Any help would be appreciated.

The first year a 460 was available with a M/T was 1983, so if anyone sez there's a 460 M/T flywheel prior to that date, they are full of it!
1965/71 passenger cars & 1968/76 F100/350's use the same 390 M/T flywheel.
The 1965/67 car/truck 352 & 1968/76 F100/350 360 M/T flywheel will also work.
C5AZ6375L .. 390 Flywheel ~ 184 Tooth Ring Gear / Marked: C5AE-6380-K
(6) 5/16" pressure plate attaching bolt holes on a 12 7/8" bolt circe. Uses an 11 1/2' clutch.

It's my understanding from reading posts here on FTE, that a 12" clutch can be used on a 390 flywheel. Who sells it...I dunno.
For further info, FTE member Monsterbaby is the one to ask, he's the 429/460 expert.

As for the 78 460 I just done a search on autozones website and it offered a 460 for the the 78 f250 2x4 with a manual. I am not saying you are wrong just saying what they had on their website. I have read on here what you are saying about the 250 not being available with a 460 and a 4 speed. Just trying to find the correct flywheel.
