OK well im planning on doing some projects for the spring and here we go...
- I want to put thicker tires onto the rims i have but im really unsure about the sizing charts and all that stuff. The tires that are on the rims now are Goodyear Eagle GTII 305/50R20.. What do these numbers mean? THe one thing i do know is that they already rub but only on the drivers side. Like i said i want to put thicker tires on because it just doesnt look right with these tires. I was looking for a look like this.... I like the way the tires are thick but still are not huge. Do you guys know of a brand that has the looks of these tires?
- Would a 2.5" inch leveling kit work to get these tires to fit? Ive heard of this back spacing thing?.. should i have that looked at since the tires i have on the rims now already rub? Im looking for a kit less than $300... any suggestions?
Opinons and questions greatly appreciated!!
Thanks Jaret
Metric tire sizes: The numbers stand for the.. Width / Profile height ratio - Tire type - Rim size, so yours are 305mm wide by 50% of the width height (152.5mm), r=radials, mounted on a 20 inch rim. Best guess is it's about a 32" to 32.5" tire.
The 08s (like in the pic) are supposed to have larger wheel wells up front, so they can fit larger tires on a stock set up than older SDs. I think they can handle up to 33s, but I drive an '07, so I can't just go out and measure and be sure. IIRC a pre-08 SD is probably limited to a 32-ish inch tire based on not rubbing on the fenders. Looks like you run an '01, so the front leaf pack will limit your turning radius more than my 07s coil sprung front would, but this depends on wheel width and offset. Where are you rubbing? I'm guessing on the leafs, probably starts at fairly close to full lock when you're turning. You probably aren't backsiding the fender, but you must be getting really close to the front fender.
The pic looks like Super Swamper IROKs from Interco. That's one of the few tires they make with a lot of choices for a 20" rim. Looks to be around a 33", if it's 13.50" wide, that would make it the ROK-13 item number under the "Radial" tab in the following link. The top section is bias-ply, look further down down for the radials. Interco make awesome off-road tires in general, the IROK in specific. http://www.intercotire.com/tires.php?id=6&g=1
Final Verdict: A leveling kit should be perfect for fitting 33s. Talk to a fella named DCSpecial around here, he can answer any questions about the kits for your truck. I guess you're looking into a front leveling pack, and maybe a rear block depending on if you have a 250 or 350.
Hope this helps.

Reason: I can spell 'height' and its not hight
I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say its a 2001 F-250 .... just like his name implies, and since that's what he lists in his profile. But that's just a guess
He was asking about the tires in the pic that he posted of the 08, that's not his truck.
Since it's a 2001 I think the biggest you can safely go is 33x12.5" tires without a lift or levelling kit. You may be able to get away with the 275/65R20's (34x10.5") that Ford put on the newer 05-07 trucks that came with the 20" rims, but I can't guarantee that.
so i could go with the 2" mini pack with some larger shocks? if so do you carry this package? and What shocks would you recommend? Thanks for all the help. Jaret
