The 2.5 Essex V6s and 2.5/2.5 HSC 4-cylinders are a different bolt pattern than the 2.8/2.9/4.0. The only transmissions that will bolt up to a 2.9 are ones bolted to the 2.8 or 4.0.
ok pulled the bottom pan off the transmission, oil had little to no metal shavings in it. i visually inspected the gears while i was at it and i'm no expert but they looked great. played with the shifting fork and somthing clicked! got excited and checked to see if it would shift, now it runs through all 6 gears!!!! in the process of filling with new oil and woundering if i can be lazy and overfill by a fifth of a quart?
You don't want to overfill, usually. Overfilling tends to make the oil foam up more, and being bad for lubrication. I'm beginning to wonder what 'clicked' and if there might be further issues, but hopefully not.
as much as i'd love to storm off into denial..... i cant. we are having a kind of hard time selling it so we're considering pulling the motor and dropping it into a nicer 4wd bronco, but thats just a thought for now. if anyone is interested just PM me for pics....
