I have a 97 Explorer with the 5.0 engine, great truck but the body is just about shot, and there are electrical issues. My question is in regards to the engine, Is the 5.0 in my explorer a roller motor. I'm thinking about using the block and heads in my 79 mustang.
I believe the gt-40 and gt-40p heads have different spark plug angles. I'm not sure which you have on your explorer or what type of exhaust you have on the Stang, but you may want to be sure the spark plug angle will work for your application.
Can some one explain the different s between the to head types, GT-40 and the GT-40p What are the spark plug angles. My 79 has 90's exhaust system on it, and the spark plugs are angled to the front.
I'm not an expert on the heads, so I'm unable to provide specific technical answers. 1997 was the conversion year for the "P" heads on the explorer, so you may have them or may not.
If I were to use the 5.0 out of my 97 Explorer(remove the EFI) slap on an intake and carb. Is there anything else I'll have to be worried about, Besides the distributor and oil pan.
