antifreeze in coolant

I have a 1998 chevy 2500 with a 5.7 vortec. These motors are notorious for intake gaskets going bad, which mine did. I am going to continue while I am there and do both head gaskets, because I did overheat it a little bit, and want to ensure there is no damage to the head, and also make sure the intake gasket is the only leak. There is a significant amount of coolant in the oil, and my question is, what are the chances I messed up something else? If I just check the flatness of the heads and check for cracks, and change the oil (lots of times right in a row before driving), is there anything else to check for besides making sure nothing is knocking? When it overheated, it got up to approx 250 on the stock electronic gauge, which measures right by the thermostat. It got hot because it lost a lot of coolant into the oil, and i limped it along to get to water.

250 hmmm if it wasn't knocking when you shut it down you are probably ok. Anti-freeze will it the bearings. so dumping the oil running it acouple of hrs. and change it again you should be ok..Never had a intake gasket problem on our chevs. I would check the radiator for plugging , the problem area on ALL our chevs. is the bugs build up between the ac. condensor and the water radiator, only way to clean, is to un bolt the radiator and tilt it away from the condensor or lift it clear out and blow each one out individually
