Hey All,
This is kind of random - but what's the easiest way to tell a MAF truck apart from a MAP truck?
I've heard in the past that the intake with 2 big holes = MAP, 1 hole = MAF. But my truck (93-94 transition) has 2 seperate air tubes that Y together at (what I think is) a MAF. It also has a 351 firing order. I'll post a pic tomorrow.
Gotta love those transition years.. (FWIW, my truck also has the wedge-mounted brake calipers, while any parts store will try to sell me bolt-on calipers)
Close enough on the MAF. which comes w/ single fired injectors & allows you check your cylinders compression balance when you do the OBD1 KOER scan, among a list of other pluses. Kinda the "pick o' the OBD1 F150-250 litter". A MAP to MAF mod can be a real bitch if you try to do it "all donor parts". Your a lucky dog. I Believe Trans is also computer integrated (for better or worse).
"Lucky dog"..hah - I think my engine/trans (5.0 maf / zf5) are worth more than the rest of the truck...needs a new bed, fenders, cab corners, and floor.. and that's just counting the pieces that are too gone to repair!
I've got a 87' 5.0 w/ 78k and 180-182 psi on all 8 cyls. All Fluids synthetic. Sounds like your in tough weather country although mines spent most it's time in mid- Oregon.
To tell the difference is rather easy. MAF has a sensor in the intake tube close to the intake filter box. MAP does not. I had asked this question a few months ago and that was basically the answer I got. Please correct me if I am wrong.
