lift pump shot?

94 F250, Turbo, I have replaced the glow plugs, Motorcraft, fuel return lines, caps and o-rings. Feel I have a good job done, no liquid or diesel smell. Glow plugs warming works as expected. New battery cables & starter. Really hard to start cold. This is the reason for doing the job. Easy starts after starting. Truck is garaged and its about 70 here. I did a flow check on the filter output and got maybe 1/2 cup in 10 sec starting attempt. Is that too low to get it to fire normally? The fitting on the filter output line has about a 2mm hole. Is that correct?

Thanks

I dunno how much it should put out, but I put a new lift pump on my 88 a few months back and it did miracles to my cold starting proplems. DO NOT get a lift pump from autozone, get the most expensive (about 45$) pump from O'reilies.

Do a pressure and flow test of the fuel pump at the Schrader valve on the filter header (FSS- fuel shutoff solenoid disconnected on IP). Remove the tire valve core and hook a hose and pressure guage on it should see 4-6 psi when starter cranking engine over. Then do a fuel quantity test same place, should see 1/3 pint in 10 seconds of starter engine cranking, route fuel to a suitable container with a hose. When all finished hook up the FSS wire .

If there is a problem with the lift pump and you are changing it, ensure the new pump comes with instructions as to correct installation procedure if it is the newer model pump with the almost straight arm.
