Here's a strange one..on my '96 ranger..
I was following my daughter home the other night and noticed that the right rear amber signal light was on solid. Tha same up front left side.. on solid.
That was with headlights or parking lights on... no blinker, just solid on. When the lights are off and left turnsignal is applied all the exterior lights blink in time with the flasher.. tail, front parking lights, license plate light and yes even the light on the radio. Sounds as if the left turn signal circuit is making contact with external lighting circuit, but where?? Do rangers have problems with the multi-function switch like some of the GM cars??? I'm waiting to get my manual back from my son-in law so at least i can see a wiring diagram.
Anybody out there run into anything similar to this.
Thanks much....
I have never had that problem out of the 7 rangers I've owned. I did have a simular problem from my 02 jeep wrangler. I took it in under warrenty and they said it had a bad ground, but I didn't ask for details.
I pulled bulbs, thinking maybe a lifted ground was causing the problem and the parking light circuit was feeding back through the turn signal bulb filament ( they share a ground), but .. no difference. Then I noticed by the rear bumper a big T shaped trailer adapter/connector that was plugged in-line between left-rear and right rear wiring. I pulled the adapter out and reattached the the two original plugs. Bingo.. the problem went away. Something must have been making contact within that trailer wiring setup, what with winter water, ice and salt its a wonder anything works.
Thanks to all who replied.
