I'm new here so I don't know if this has been asked before. Some friends told me to come here and I could solve my problem. I have a 1979 F-100 Lariat witha 302 engine, 2 barrel carb, sort bed, automatic trans (c4 I think). I have checked the Ford Home sight with no resultss. The truck has been completely restored. New engine, just had the trans rebuilt etc.My question is: How much is the towing capacity for my baby. The door sticker reads as followss: Front GAWR 2500#, Rear GAWR 2726, GVWR 4800# I'm almost sure this is for the hauling axle and bed weight but I need to know how much I can pull. We just bought a popup camper and the camper sticker says; GAWR 2950, GVWR 3250. I will also be installing a transmission cooler very soon before I pull the camper. Almost everyone says I will be fine but I really want some imput from people that knows exactly what I have.
Thank you in advance, Bill
to get the first post of of the way, your going to kill everyone on the road towing that trailer unless you have a F-450 CC turbo diesel.
Now back to reality:
I'd go with no problem, I'd pull 5,000 lbs with that truck and not worry. Just my .02 cents. I'd much rather have tandem axles then a single axle, you get a lot less bounce and sway w/ two axles.
GVWR(gross vehicle weight rating)means the maximum allowable weight of the fully loaded vehicle, including liquids, passengers, cargo and the tongue weight of any towed vehicle!
I tried to look it up at motorcraft.com but they don't go back that far. Your truck will pull that just fine. Do the tranny cooler and be sure to put a temp guage on the trans and go for it.
