Used paperclip as instructed by Fordfuelinjection.com- I used this b4 in the past and it worked fine for pulling the codes.
I lost power a week ago, motor will crank,- wont start.
was Instructed to pull codes:
Paperclip,etc,etc..Turn the key no sounds of relays, no sound from
fuel pumps, no sound period.
I DO get lights on in the dash but no flashing check engine light, no blinks..
they just stay on.
Baffled-
Changed out module, stator, coil..
What else? -help.
Check both relays and the plugs that go to them!! Does the check engine light come on at all? Are the ground wires that go to the battery connected? If u have no check engine light u have no power to the computer.

The Check engine light comes on, but thats it...no flash, no blink..
Usually when I pull the codes, I get the noises from under the hood of relays, and Fuelpump aknowledgment.. then It will ready itself with about three flashes from the check engine light, then the codes will follow with blinks/flashes..
but the Check engine light just stays on-with all the rest of the dash lights once key is turned to run.
Ground wires are connected, I'm checking everything as I go..
An easy way to check for power to the computer is to test for battery voltage at the injectors, IAC, or TAD/TAB/EVR solenoids with the key in the run position. The fuel pump relay depends on the EEC relay being energized, so if the EEC relay (or wiring) has failed, the fuel pump will not work either. You could also test continuity of the signal return wire between the test connector and the TPS or EVP to ensure that the computer ground circuit is still functional and test between signal return and battery ground to make sure the computer still has a good ground.
It really doesn't matter where the STI wire is grounded, although the signal return wire in the diagnostic connector is the most direct ground path back to the computer. Ford put the signal return wire in the diagnostic connector specifically for jumpering to the STI for diagnostics and the fuel pump wire to test the FP relay. They were nice enough to put it there, might as well put it to some good use.
Reason i ask about the check engine light is on my truck someone put s screw going into the eec relay and when i was under the i poped it out. changed fuelpump module and a bunch of other stuff because of that rigged wire. I had no checkengine light, but moving around wires fuel pump would burp and then i found it. Another time i was driving after changin the battery terminal and the ground wires that ground fuelpump and such came out of the battery terminal. I then had a very dim check engine lite. I would check that ground at neg post on battery too as this grounds the fuel system and i think eec also. There should be 2 black wires going to the neg terminal
