Hey Guys,
New here, wonder if you could lend your grey matter to me...
Info on the truck:
I just bought an 01 F250 7.3 4x4, it has 38K on it, and driven very little.
(4K miles since last july).
It has exhaust on it, stock downpipe, but everything else performance.
Diablo Predator chip (older one installed in 01- they dont make this one anymore)
Maint: Fuel filter day before I bought it (leaking), secondary (on engine)
What I have been experiencing is a noise from the engine. Sounds like a rod knock. I searched the web and found out about the #8 Injector issue, sounded like that could be it. I took out the chip and the noise seemed to be better, when warm it is still there, but slightly quieter...
With 38K on it, should I suspect the injector, or should I get an oil change (I don't know when the last one was done)? The guy just replaced the fuel filter and I didn't hear this during the test drive.. so I am also thinking air in fuel. I haven't filled the tank yet only 1/4 so far... thoughts?
thanks~ Phil
Thats pretty low mileage to be having a problem like that.
It would be a good idea to get fresh oil in her (is there enough in there now?).
If in cold climate use 5W. Oil runs a lot of things in this engine, hopefully it could be as simple as that.
First thing I would do is make sure the chip is set on stock settings.
You need gauges and the engine needs to breathe with a bigger intake. (look up the 6637 mod)
i would change oil cant hurt any thing n the then check the injector with a volt meter n also unplug the injector see if it gets worse. while the truck is running prob the injector to see if its getting proper voltage
put new fuel in it could be detonation due to poor fuel
Ok, So I changed my oil, filled the fuel tank with fresh fuel. Still has what sounds like a rod knock- very noticeable at idle, can hear it while cruising, but its fairly faint.
I have read the TSB concerning "cackle" and the #8 injector. My question is, since this truck has had a chip since new, is it possible that it hurt something in there? Sounds like a rod knock at idle, but while cruising quite a bit quieter.
Question 2: As the truck only has 38K on it, would a faulty injector still be under warranty?
