I've seen articles on additives before. Personally, the only additive I have ever run was the Rislone stuff that is supposed to keep things cleaner and prevent build-up. The safest bets IMO are to use the recommended viscosity oil, a Purolator or Wix filter, and change your oil and filter regularly (using engine flush on high-mileage engines is a good thing) OR do what I did - switch over to Amsoil.
