First off, i want to say this sight is AWESOME!I've been wanting to beef up my little 4.9 but had trouble finding parts and info about anything other than v8s. Gonna get K&M induction system and Flowmaster catback. Question... through web sites i've found two systems. I'm goin' with dual rear exits cause it looks so cool(I'm from Alabama). I want a cool hot rod sound (American Thunder) but since i work in the city(live in the sticks)am concerned if this will be too loud(the city has a noise ordinance but it's geared more towards loud radios)The Force II systems claims to have a mellow tone but i don't know if it's gonna be loud enough for the "souped up" sound i'm looking for. Has anyone got suggestions? Also, do they come with 3" pipe or only what will fit my engine correctly? i know on this site some have said that 3" will not allow enough back pressure, but i don't do much hauling anyway(if i do, it's boats, jet ski's etc.)Since this affects the torque, what affect will it have on the takeoff from a stop? Also, whould it be worth the money to get headers from Clifford, or since it's a '94 model, just leave stock manifolds? I know this is a lot to ask but i'm a newbie to this hot rod stuff. Thanks for your time.HAMMER DOWN!
Just installed a Flowmaster Force II system on my truck last weekend, and I also have the 4.9L. Unfortunately, the sound is too mellow, so I would suggest you go for the American Thunder kit.
I would advise against a dual exit though. The Flowmaster kit is a single 3" which looks plenty tuff in itself. They accomplish this with a 2 1/4" to 3" expansion piece just off the read cat.
I'd also recommend you test fit the pieces together before crawling under the truck. I had to hammer the expansion piece and internitent pipe together, and the muffler to tailpipe joint was also extremely tight.
