Hey Matt,

Welcome to FTE If you want to save money the best bet would be to go with a 6637 with a Petes cover

If you have an early 99 would need a 45 degree piece of PVC pipe or 4in exhaust. If it is a late 99 you will need a 3 1/2 of 4in exhaust. You can get the 6637 from Wix filters - oil filters, biodiesel filters, air filters, and fuel filters from FleetFilter! and the cover from TruckMods

I prefer the donaldson power core design filter, that came with the 6.oh trucks from the factory. It is oriented in the correct way, to allow maximum airflow as aposed to the AIS in my oppinion. It provides pretty much the best filtration, (extremely low silicon levels on UOA's) of any filter, and can usually had relatively cheap by people who have taken them off to put an aftermartet airfilter. Just a little fabrication required. Heres a couple pictures of mine. Nevermind the dirt in the motor compartment, just because it looks dirty, doesnt mean it doesnt run well. Trucks a true animal, comin up on its 200k birthday

No, and quite honestly, I dont think I ever will. I think that keeping that system in tact, keeps vacuum in the crank case and helps with possible future oil leaks in the seal area. Not that the 7.3l motor has everbeen accused of being a seal eater, just looking long term here. I built a catch canister to mount to the firewall, that should keep most the oil from going into the intake, just havent put it on yet. (The catch can and 6.oh intake ideas Ive stolen from another member, Clux) Maybe for its 200k anniversary next month, when i go under the valve covers, and play a little. Ill clean the boots off then too haha.

EDIT: also for what its worth, the theory I have on the CCV, is mine, not proven, or tested. Just something that works in my head.

I have the AIS and love it. Really filters air well, and uses Donaldson's filter technology. Great flow and filtration characteristics. So far I have over 20,000 on the same filter run in West Texas...read: A lot of fine dust... Last check I found hay in the filter box somehow and a dead grasshopper... glad that didn't end up in the engine!

Welcome to FTE Matt

I struggle with this thought from time to time also. I went to get a 6637 from my local napa, and it was about 50 bucks for the filter. I seem to get my air filters dirty fairly quick, so I would have to buy a few of those a year. Start adding that up, and I could get a system with a washable type filter in it, and it would pay itself off in a couple of years.

Thats my opinion on it, but if you live in the states, you can get those 6637's for cheaper. Here they cost more, and even to get them in bulk and ship them up here, they are pricey.

I am really sold on the 6673 with petes cover, but i really like to hear my truck when she is working. U also get a pretty good wow factor when people look under the hood and see it. Changed a couple of people over K&N to 6637, mostly because they didn't take the time to wash their filter and wanted something simple.

I love my AIS as well. It keeps all types of stuff out of the intake.

The donaldson powercore design is an impressive filter, thats why I have the 6oh filter setup on. It also came stock on or 07 LBZ dmax.
