help with clutch adjustment
I have a '75 F-250 (360/four-speed) and I'm a little worried about adjusting my clutch pedal play. Manual says there should be .75-1.5-inches of free travel before the pedal engages anything. When I started out, I had 2.5-inches, so I moved the locknuts on the adjusting sleeve.
My concern is that the nuts were so far out that there's almost no exposed bolt end for the sleeve (the one that goes against the clutch fork) to seat on. Once I reinstalled the spring it stays together Ok, but I"m worried that it's too fragile and it going to pop sometime when I'm driving.
The free play is down to a little over 1.5, but I wouldn't mind taking up a little more slack. Anyone have suggestions? Is this indicative of a worn clutch? Seems to engage just fine to me. Thanks.

I welded-on a motorcycle wrist pin to lengthen mine. ;)
Also limited the clutch pedal's total travel...
Screwed a ~1/2" thick hunk of conveyor belt to the floor under the carpet.
Bolted half a rubber isolator where the sorry original bump-stop was. :)

That's a 5/16-18 nut.

Welcome to (FTE)!
What I think is with the diferent makers of clutches and pressure plates, and when flywheels get( turned )lots of times, even sometimes (turned) to there MAX limits, this afects
the clutches having enough (Adjustment)!
Take a look at this thread, from a little while back!

Hey guys, thanks for the tips. I tried to do a search on the topic, but the page kept coming up blank no matter what I tried.
Drove the truck around a little this afternoon and sure enough that "crayon" popped out. I guess for now I'll probably spin those locknuts back a little so the crayon has something to grab onto.
