Hello everyone! Ok here is the story of my project; I own a 1971 f-100 with 390fe and 4 speed tranny. limited slip , no power steering or brakes, but i have rebuilt the 390 with edelbrock performance package. I also own a 1968 f-350 dually one ton with a 390 4-speed power brakes and steering, factory a/c that works!!. newer paint job on cab no bed.
My questions are can i take the power steering off the f-350 and brakes, and a/c and put onto my f-100 or would it be better to swith motors and rear end, etc. not sure what i might run into if i tried either one. or what can i do with f-100 bed to put onto a dually. are there different gears to put into dually bed so it will be better on hwy?
My end goal right now is to have one truck with power options and use the cab with newer paint job.
okay the cabs will swap over the bed will take some modifying to work with the dually. the axles and stuff should be all different. so that stuff wont swap.
i don't mind either one, i just want to have the power steering and power brakes and a/c with new motor and cab. can i swith over the cabs and power options or what might i be able to do that im not thinking of.
i know the brakes will swith over but not really sure about the steering. a flatbed on f-350 with motor swap would be the easy way. but thats no fun!!! what would be the steps bringing the power steering and brakes and ac onto the f100; a/c least important of the three.
not sure but by looks it looks close i will be picking up dually friday since i just bought couple of days ago. just trying to get a head start!!
i am thinking the best thing would be to install motor onto the f-350 and get a flatbed for it, but the only think i worry about is the f-350 will be a rough ride and the mods are a little more tricky for a dually at least thats what i heard
is the power steering set up different on a f-350 than on a f100 what im getting at is will the stuff on the f-350 be a possible switch onto the f100 seems like same truck beside load capacity and rear end and 8 lugs vs 5lugs on f-100 i`m not sure about the differences between an f-350 vs f100 or f250 seems to me its the same truck
The power steering and a/c from the F350 will bolt into your F100. The power brake booster would bolt up but I'd advise you not to use it. The booster on the F350 was designed for a truck with a much heavier load capacity that required bigger brakes. If you installed it on your F100 it would tend to lock the wheels with any more than light pedal pressure.
now i will be using the boat to haul our 24`pontoon boat and a heavier trailer once in awhile so is would it be bad to make the switch or could it work, not an everday driver
Rob1981, if I was even thinking of towing I would build the F350. When you are towing bigger brakes are always better. Also dual wheels add a lot of stability.
