I looked at this 64 ford f-250 a while back in the junkyard. I noticed today that it has a pto in line between the tranny and the rear end. There is a small air tank mounted on the side drivers rail. The truck has original power steering. On the bottom of the straight axle, buy both wheels, there is a plate bolted to the leaf springs with 4 eyelets and springs attached from the eyelets to the axle. What is it and what would the pto be used for? The truck had a regular bed on it.
My dad seems to think the plates may be some sort of stabilizer. The pto still boggles me. It had a little tiny shaft coming out of it and the driveshaft was a small diameter also. The truck is not a dually.
The truck is in new orleans so I don't think it would be a snow plow. Of course I have never seen a snow plow rig.
I may not be describing it well so I will try to take some pictures when I go again. Is this something anyone could use? The driveshafts look like the shaft to connect a tractor to a bushhog. It seems kind of small for an f-250. I just can't figure out what the pto could run in this location. I doubt it would cost more than $100.00 for the whole setup, it is in the pull a part yard.
That PTO could have powered most anything from an air compressor, to a winch, or hydrolic pump, even a genset. What you have found is a GEM! A new PTO for that transmission run's around $1,200.
That thing is worth $$$$ to anyone with a Ford Pickup that wants to mount and power a winch, or pump, or.......................
Very good score! If I was closer I'd race you to the junkyard
