WOW! What a difference. Went from in the mid/upper 10's to low 12's in MPG.
You can actually feel the lessenig of the backpressure and improved breathing. M<ORE p reacts and flexible faster.<>
For $90 part and $120 labor, it was well worth the $$.
I recommend it to anyone..
What was the part number and where did you order it from?
Joe, I just signed up today and just noticed your signature. I have a 2001 excursion V10 and a 1973 240z.
I was also looking at the y-pipe. Glad to hear how good it is. Might have to pick it up.
stupidloud...far be it for me to tell you how to spend your money, but you may wanna hold of on the purchase of a y-pipe. Since you have an '01, you have the "ram's horn" style of y-pipe, which (IMO) is pretty efficient. At some point (I THINK it was '03...don't hold me to that) Ford changed the design of the y-pipe to address a noise complaint from customers called "flutter"...what flutter might be, I don't know. I've never heard any weird or unpleasant sounds when driving my folks' X. Instead of the nice, curved transition, they ran the pipe from one engine bank into the pipe from the other side at a 90º angle, and necked the pipe size at the joint down to 1½". So, for those people, the aftermarket y-pipe is indeed a good purchase.
I haven't read about anyone changing the earlier ram's horn y-pipe out for SPD's aftermarket design. They claim reversion (exhaust gas flowing from one half of the Y into the other) is a problem, but (again, just my opinion) I don't think the problem is big enough to be noticed by switching pipes, and I'm not convinced there'd be significant gains, either in power or gas mileage. Now, if you were building a 600-horsepower V-10, then....
Did it change the sound of the exhaust, and how much if so. I like many guys on here have been kicking around buying one of these. Ever since my first oil change I knew that there had to be a better way. Also do you think that thier claims of 33HP and 35 FP are accurate. That's alot for minimal cash. Thanks,
i put the stans headers y pipe on my x. the combo of that and the flowmaster super 44 makes it really loud. i would not recommend this combo for those who tow alot. its really loud in the truck. i love it though.
The spd y pipe seems to make the truck quieter inside. We just took a trip to Pittsburgh last weekend and doing a steady 78-82mph on turnpike, I was getting up to 13.2 mpg. Amazing at that speed and on the hills/mountains.
Definately quieter inside and engine works easier too.
Redvs can fly up with less pressure on pedal. Al around better with just a total $200 investment.
Im plan on putting the 70 series flowmaster on it too to further improve the airflow yet still make it quiet.
No matter what anyone eslse says. mine is quieter thanm before running at speed. I have not towed with her but for the majority of family hauling, my X is quieter.
You're gonna love that new Y pipe! Added one to my 01 EX last fall and while I didn't see massive changes, I do notice more towing power on hills and maybe a mile better mpg.....But then that was 10%. Not bad for the price.
