Today I've noticed that my radiator fan keeps going on for like two secs than off for two secs. It keeps cycling like this all the time, even when I just started the truck and everything was cold (like 20 degrees here today). I don't think I've noticed it kicking on and off this much before. Is there a switch that would be faulty to make this happen? . I've tried to search the forums and haven't found an answer yet.
There is no switch. The clutch is controlled by a thermostatic valve that is a part of the clutch itself.
Surging can be caused by a binding valve, corrosion on the bi-metal spring on the front of the clutch, or most likely fluid leaking from the clutch.
Check the fan clutch for any signs of leaks and also see if there is a lot of corrosion on the spring on the front (use a mirror.) If it's corroded, spray some penetrating oil on it every once in a while. If you see any leaks, it's time for a new clutch.
