I am looking at buying a truck from private owner. Ran an Oasis and an Autocheck. Both show a marked title. Heres the deal the title shows as salvage in Sept. in New Mexico and the guy with the truck bought it at auction in Texas in Oct. He says that it hasn't been wrecked and that he only had to fix the Axles. With out inspecting it directly (only through pictures) it looks as if it would have been difficult to get the truck into this nice of shape in that little time. The Owner says he ran a Carfax on it and didn't see a branded title when he did that. Now my questions. Is it possible for titles to be mismarked or is there a way to research the particulars of it being marked salvage? How can you find the insurance company that marked the title? I wouldn't care about the marked title (assuming a personal inspection came back clean) if I was able to fully insure the truck. Problem is insurance only has to pay salvage value if ever totalled due to the marked title. Any help tracking down this information would be great. I know that I could just walk away but the deal is pretty good and the features on the truck are exactly what I am looking for so I feel it is worth investigating.

Thanks for the info unfortunately the title in question is from NM and they don't have any info available. I'm going to keep looking.

 

Thanks everybody I got my answer. The truck was totaled due to flood damage. I will be walking away from this one.
