I need to remove the key switch and replace it. The problem is that the cylinder wont turn so I cant remove it. I know I have to have the key turned to be able to depress the button that releases the lock cylinder. How do I remove it with the key in the off position? HELP I NEED MY TRUCK TO GO TO WORK!!!!!!!!!
You should be able to drill out the lock pin from the underside of the column.
Emergency backup: drop the steering column down and remove the ignition switch from the top, near the firewall. Let it hang down from the harness, and you can start/stop the truck using a screwdriver or other small stick-like object.
Now, if your steering wheel is locked...that method doesn't really help.
It sounds like the problem may be the ignition actuator. It is a pot metal peice that is between the key switch and the rod that goes down to the ignition switch which is mounted lower on the column. I just replaced mine in my 91 f 150 a couple of weeks ago. There is a good write up about it on here somewhere. Try going to search and typing in ignition actuator. The one I found had plenty of photos and will give you a good idea of what your dealing with. I hope this helps, good luck!
