I have a 1982 carb. 300. I i were to cut off the muffler then just use the tail pipe to make it exit out infront of the tire would it sound good. How does the i-6 sound with straigt compared to glasspacks. Will i have enough back pressure if i cut the muffler off? thanks for any help
It would sound good if you put it out in front of the reat tire.
I don't really notice much difference in glasspacks and straight pipes. I would go with the straight pipe. If your truck has 2 cats on it try knocking out the rear cat and putting a cherrybomb on it , if you want sound. Somewhere on this exhaust section someone has sounds of there truck with with a single cherrybomb and then and later with clifford headers and dual cherrybombs

i know i dont have two cats and am not sure if i have any. there is a thing on my exhuast that looks like a mini basketball. Is that the cat? If not what is it? thanks
that is probably your cat. Knock it out if you want to. It will give you more power. But I would keep it the same so you have some backpressure, and just put the straight pipe on it. It should sound good and give you more power.
if i cut the muffler off and put the tail pipe in and have it exit in front of the rear wheel. will it be too loud. the muffler is right under the cab. thanks
I have straigh pipes on mine but they come out the back. It was really loud when I had the pipes off. It was under the cab and it was really loud and it shook the cab. But that should not be a problem after you put the pipe on. Make sure you put it back aways. I have a little resonence but it is only at low RPM's.
I have a 300 82' also and need a new manifold. They costs $225 for a stock manifold! For the money, not to mention the performance, I would rather put a header on it. I can't find anything but a Clifford at $253, what do you have on yours? Who else makes a reasonable priced header for the I6 300?
If you want a stock manifold with the O2 sensor fitting I can retrieve a used one for $100 + shipping (300-6). It's cheap to have them hot tanked, blasted, and resurfaced. I can have that done too...decaruby(No Email Addresses In Posts!)
