Fuel issue's

Im getting a 1990 Ford F350 460 dual tanks.

It keeps having an intermittent wont start issue, turns over.

It'll start and drive for couple weeks, then wont start. It sits over night, it'll start. The fuel pumps prime with the key out, sometimes they will click on when you slam the door. Right now it wont start because there is no fuel. I havent looked at it yet but I dont believe the pumps are turning on.

I think this is just a fuel relay. What do you guys think? Im very experienced with trucks but I havent done much fuel injection work.

The key is out of the truck, engine off, nothing on. The pumps will click on and pressurize by them selves.

I would start with adjusting or maybe replacing the ignition switch.
This switch is located on the steering column, down close to the dash.
It should be impossible for the pumps to come on if the ignition is actually off. Switch has slots in the base so it can be adjusted, but if you pull the switch, look for partially melted plastic or wire insulation. If you have damage to the wiring, could cause this problem too.
Good luck Frank

It just had the column fixed because its a tilt wheel. You had to push the wheel up to the starter to engauge. Now it works fine. the switch was replaced, the rod works now. I willl play around with it. Would this cause the fuel pumps to not turn on at all? If it wasnt adjusted right?

If the switch is way out of adjustment, it will not let it move far enough to engage the starter. If it is way out the other way you might not be able to turn it all the way off. You could not go to accessory and get the radio, wipers, etc.
I would examine the switch real good and look at the plug and wiring too. As far as I know, for the pump to turn on, the power has to first go to the computer, and then back to the fuel pump relay.
Sorry I can't be more help, but as you know something is definitely screwy if the pump is coming on with no key in the ignition.
I would pull the positive battery cable until I had time to work on it. You may stand a chance of starting a fire the way things stand now.
Good Luck Frank
