Another spring question

Ok I feel dumb for asking but.........is it possible to reinstall a rear spring backward? I just replaced my broken springs with a newer set from the bone yard. the new ones have one less leaf but I have an extra 2-3" of lift. Now my shocks dont reach the mounts. I measured from the center bolt to the eyes and one side is 24" and the other is 28" ( I thought they were equal when I installed them). I have the short side to the front and the long side going to the rear shackle. I don't have it torqued down yet so reversing it wont be a problem.

With a 52" spring, and an offset alignment pin, it is possible to get the spring in backwards, but this pin is designed to locate the axle. If you stuck the spring in backwards the tire on the side that you replaced would be too far to the rear of the truck. I mean this thing would be back, and way back in the wheel well. Actually 4 inches to the rear. but should not be any higher. Regardless of the amount of leafs, the new pack has more arch and this additional arch is providing more lift.
Did you change just one leaf pack? This would have been a good idea to replace both as a pair. Replacing both would have eliminated this problem.

You have done a fine job by replacing both. You have also installed them correctly, and it would appear the these springs have a greater arch than the ones that you replaced.
If it is not too much trouble, pop one out, and set it beside the one leaf pack that it replaced. Of course you should compare this new leaf pack to the original leaf pack that is not broken. Place them side by side with the spring eyes facing down, and both in the identical direction, and you can easilly see the amount of arch that each pack has. I would guess without seeing these myself, that the newer pack will have an arch about 2 inches higher than the ones it replaced.
You should also look to see if you can find any one leaf that looks different than the others. It is possible that you picked up a leaf pack with an add a leaf that was installed at some time or another. Look at the ends of each leaf, and see if you can find something that does not look identical to the other leafs.
You can remove this leaf, and try the heigth, or you can take the leaf packs apart, amd make up your own using the original main leaf, and you can build from there. You will have some trial and error, but you can build your own.
To minimize some work, can you just replace the broken leaf with a leaf from the new pack. If you do the same for both sides, you should have about the same priginal ride heigth, and your problems should be over.
